The Make-a-Wish foundation granted a rather unusual wish the other day- Cancer patient Erik Martin was awarded the privilege of being Electron Boy and got to be a famous super-hero for the day.
His mission was serious- the entire Seattle Sounders FC soccer team was trapped in their locker room and couldn't escape. They needed Electron Boy's expertise and the secret move taught to Electron Boy by Spider Man in order to return to safety and the practice field.
Electron Boy did not shirk away from his responsibilities and didn't disappoint the team. In front of a small crowd that was probably a little startling for the new Superhero, Electron Boy used his magic touch and what appeared to be a light-sabre to rescue the team, whose gratefulness was evident from the smiles on their faces.
Here's the video:
As much as I love Electron Boy and the heart-warming story of his amazing rescue of the Sounders' FC, perhaps Electron Boy shouldn't have rescued the team at all. In their next game, they lost by 4-0 loss to the LA Galaxy. I hate to say it, but I am not so sure that getting the team out of the locker room was the best thing or not. Hindsight always provides the best vision.
Of course, I can't blame Electron Boy for the Sounders' loss as the superhero was just doing his job. I wish Electron Boy the best of luck in any future rescues or missions that he may have and am happy that the city of Seattle will be looked after by such an amazing superhero.
